fashion timeline

I had so much fun illustrating fashion silhouettes for an upcoming exhibit at the Kent State University Museum.  Here they are from the 1750s to the 2000s.

I'd like to wear the dress from the 1990s (bottom row, second from the right) and I'd like the dashing 1810 man (top row, far right) to take me out to dinner. What are you favorites?

  1. Ooh, so nice, I love this timeline!
My favorite silhouette is the 1810s girl, second from the left on the second row. :-)

    1. In my mind that one is burgundy velvet with very heavy fringe.

    1. I still have dreams of making a sculpted Dior-esque jacket to wear with the grey, sunburst pleated skirt I have. That silhouette is simply perfect!

  6. Although I'm generally not a fan of Natural Form, the third row #2 silhouette is lovely -- so impractical, but so dramatic! For a more "every day" look I would prefer the 1950s one, though ;)

    1. It's too easy to imagine myself getting tripped up in that train on that mid 1870s number for me to even think of wearing it.

  7. Definitely the leg of mutton sleeve dress! 1830's?(middle of 3rd row) I love this silhouette timeline, I've always hoped to do one myself some day.

  8. The giant sleeves on the middle of the third row belong to the 1890s. Those sleeves are so giant they need their own zip code.

  9. What a lovely illustration! I've always rather admired your blog banner corsets illustration too. My favourite would have to be the 1750s lady, I love the pannier hips and the little flat hat.
