the official summer corset photograph

Finally, a really nice image of the late 188o's summer corset.

The details come through really well in this shot. If you know where to look you can just make out where the major cleaning was needed. But don't look that hard.

  1. Extraordinary work! Unusual mesh fabric, unusual cane bones - I love this corset!

  2. Just gorgeous! Have you ever considered making these for sale? I'd love to have one just like it.

  3. It looks awesome. I just wish you'd come up with this a year earlier so I could've spent the last year in 1886 in the most awesome ventilated corset. :)
    Anyhow, it looks awesome.
By the way, if you are coming this direction and want me to see if we can get in and see some corsets, my email is jur1995 (at no spaces) yahoo dot com.

  5. Fantastic, it is beautiful.

Can I ask, what does the flossing look like from the inside of the corset? I've been making corsets for a while but only just started flossing and not sure if I'm doing it right!

  6. Thanks sewaddicted!

Lorraine, the flossing has a several horizontal lines (6, I think, I'll double check as soon as I get a chance) as opposed to the diagonal lines from the front. The diagram for this design is here:

I should take a picture of it from the back so you can see. You're doing right if it's holding the bones snug in their channels because that's really what it's supposed to do. But if you want it to be purely decorative that's OK too. It makes such an impact it's worth all the time you spend ironing and waxing the thread. I'm sure you're doing it right. Have fun with it!

  8. Oh beautiful! Not I really, really feel like I need to re-do all the flossing on the corset I am just finishing. It's nowhere near that pretty :-(

  10. This is so, so beautiful. I started reading your blog yesterday afternoon and am more than halfway through. I absolutely love and adore it! I make fantasy/pseudo-medieval clothing, haven't had the courage for a corset yet, but reading your adventures is certainly getting me excited about doing it. Keep up the lovely work, and keep writing about it so we might share in your adventures. :)
