1911 corset sew along - schedule
The sew along is set up over the course of 7 weeks, with one extra week to add embellishments if desired. I want to make sure I have enough time to properly detail each step, and that everyone participating has enough to to complete it before the next one is posted. Plus there is time to catch up over the weekend if the week becomes hectic. What do you think? Does this look like a good pace?
This looks great and gives us plenty of time (my work weeks do get a bit busy--so this is great!) And thanks for making the nifty calendar pages that we can print out! hooray!
ReplyDeleteLooks good. I'm costuming a show in this amount of time too, so I might get a little behind. But we shall forge on nonetheless!
ReplyDeleteLooks great and I am really eager to get started. Just ordered supplies today from Vena Cava.
ReplyDeleteI like how this starts 1/2 - when we're at maximum New Year's inspiration!
ReplyDeleteFor those who don't have them made, do you plan on including the creation of lacing strips for this?
ReplyDeleteI wrote a brief post about lacing strips not that long ago. I'll link to it and if you feel that are not explanatory enough I can write another that goes into more detail. Maybe I should just get to work on writing one right now!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great schedule! I am SO doing this.
ReplyDeleteBut I worry about trying to make a sort-of-underbust style corset for myself. I have, uh, really a lot of bosom. It may not want to cooperate very well....would it be completely historically/stylistically wonky to creep it a little higher on the bosom? To prevent.....bosom drift, as it were. This isn't a time period I've done much research on, so I guess I'll have to get on that!
Hello Ava, There is a corset at the V&A from maybe a few years earlier that fits higher on the bust. I'll be posting it later for other with the same concerns, but take a look now! http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O354902/corset/
ReplyDeleteOh, excellent! That corset is also on pages 96-97 of Underwear: Fashion in Detail, complete with schematic drawings. Very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteOh noes, I read about this only now! I do hope supplies will reach me in time to start as I really don't want to get behind - I am a super-beginner. But! Yes! One of my new year resolutions was "less interwebs, more doing things" so I'll sew along with y'all! Excellent idea :)
ReplyDeleteI can't read the schedule on my netbook screen (too small) but I'm sure it'll work (which is the main thing!)
ReplyDeleteIf you click on the calendar and copy, or drag, it to your desk top it should be an 8 1/2" x 11 jpg that is much more readable. If that doesn't work email me and I'll attach it as a file.
